The scene we cut
The chase
Popeye Doyle under the el. No permits, no closed roads, one very real crash.
Friedkin shot much of the chase without permits on live streets in Brooklyn, with a stunt driver doing ninety miles an hour and Friedkin himself in the back with a camera. The crash with the white car was an accident with a resident who had driven out of a side street.
